Story of the Year “Wolves” Review

Holy shit! Story of the Year are back with an absolute banger of a comeback album!

I have been a fan of Story of the Year since 2006, getting hooked on their awesome sound and lyrics when I first heard In The Wake of Determination. December 2017 is the year in which Story will be releasing their fifth studio album titled “Wolves”, which will be their first release since 2010’s The Constant! Almost 7 years since their last album, dang that’s a long time!

The band is formed of vocalist Dan Marsala, lead guitarist Ryan Phillips, bassist. rhythm guitarist Philip Sneed and drummer Josh Wills. So for their new album the band became independent for Wolves and went about this by putting together a Pledge Music campaign to help fund the project. The album was produced by Aaron Spinkle, who has worked with bands such as New Found Glory and MXPX to name a few. This album will be the band’s first release since the departure of bassists Adam Russell, who left back in 2014.

More Than Most – Light the Way review

More Than Most Album.jpgI’ve been a fan of London based More Than Most coming up to 3 years now, I remember meeting Izzy (vocalist) and Cole (drummer) at Mallory Knox’s headlining “Asymmetry” tour at the Electric Ballroom back in November 2014. It was cool as I remember they gave me a copy of their band’s demo which featured the track “Remember Who You Are”, I mean I still have that demo on my shelf! I kept it all this time as I knew that those guys were gonna make some amazing music and they have done just that!

I’ve kept in touch with the guys over the past few years and always was checking up to see how the band was doing and seeing when they’d be recording new music, I honestly became a fan of More Than Most and what they started became more than just a band it became a way of life. What do you mean by that you ask? The only way I can describe it is that More Than Most represents a way of life in the respect that no matter what life throws at you there is always light at the end of the tunnel. It stands for connecting to people without having to worry about being judged or people building these ideas of what you can be as a person. As the real enemy in life is apathy or people that go…yeah I don’t care….but these guys and the fan-base are so passionate and caring it’s been such a pleasure to be a part of. One thing I have found with being a follower of this band is that its a way of meeting and uniting with different people from all angles of life and becoming like a second family. To me that has always been what More Than Most stands for and something that I haven’t found in a band previously. Each member of the band I first met back in the day were just awesome guys with wicked personalities and glad I got to hang out with them and see them play shows.

What does Music mean to you?!

SKATE.jpgMusic is a massive part of my life and has shaped who I am today, ever since I bought my first albums back in Woolworths when I was 13/14 years old its been a huge factor growing up. What’s Woolworths you ask? Damn I must be older than I thought… was the one high street shop you always wanted to go in as it had pretty much everything. I remember me and my friend having a group interview there back in college and we never got the job (remember that Ashleigh?!) ah good times!

Whoa… a bit side tracked reminiscing there….come back down to planet earth Ben and get to the subject at hand! So lately more so than usual I’ve been listening to some proper old skool albums, currently its Paramore’s “Brand New Eyes” mainly for the fact they’re touring London in June and me and two of my close friends are trying to go so guess I’ve been taking a trip down memory lane with those songs. Whether you like them or hate them, Paramore did write some belters back in the day and listening to this album made me realise it was one of their best in their career. ¬†Also been listening to Madina Lake’s “From Us, Through Them, To You” as well as this year marks the ten year anniversary that record was released…..holy ball sack ten years?! I was like seventeen when I first heard that album……yeah I think I hear my zymoframe¬†calling!
